KONEKTIV NIGHT VOL. 9
| Tu | 03 | November 19:00 |
For the ninth time, Konektiv Night presents entirely new musical collaborations that bring together the diverse genres and cultures from which the participating musicians draw inspiration. This radical fusion of distinct creative approaches opens up space for exciting and unexpected artistic outcomes, while also symbolising an unequivocal rejection of prejudice against foreigners and minorities.
Karel Nodes is the frontman of the Czech shoe-gaze band “Favorite Obsession,” whose sweet yet sad and driven songs slide around Karel’s charismatically confessional voice. But what can we expect when the frontman is pulled out of his regular shoegaze band context and accompanied by Arash Ghasemi, an Iranian multi-instrumentalist whose work is a pilgrimage of crackles and subtle shifts traversed by mysterious melodies?
Using cathartic expressions of voice, harsh and powerful walls of sound and ritualistic approaches, South Korean experimental artist Jena Jang builds to collapse, exploding to clear, mounting tension to allow for release. When met with early music extraordinaire Richard Závada, the ancient timbres of lutes and bagpipes meet with savagely contained chaos to open unchartered sonic territory sure to delight and liberate.
Vermilion steps onto the stage as a presence to be reckoned with. Layering her voice through tangles of deconstructed club music, Vermilion creates moments of tenderness as much as those of giddy terror. With Japanese percussionist Junko Honda a space opens up for something new — charming acoustic details and fierce precision come face to face with dense electronic expanses punctuated by moments of the ecstatic, raw and unpredictable.
The event is held with financial support from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Capital City of Prague, the State Fund for Culture of the Czech Republic, the Prague 7 City District, the Czech Music Fund Foundation, and the Artist’s Life Foundation.
